World of Tanks is a massively multiplayer 
online game developed by Belarusian company Wargaming.net featuring 
early to mid-20th century era fighting vehicles. It is built upon a 
freemium business model where the game is free-to-play, but participants
 also have the option of paying a fee for use of "premium" features. The
 focus is on player vs. player gameplay with each player controlling an 
armored vehicle, which may be a tank, tank destroyer, or self-propelled 
gun. World of Tanks debuted as an eSports game at the World Cyber Games 
2012.<br />
The player takes control of a single armored vehicle of his or her 
choosing, and is placed into a battle on a random map, though map 
selection may vary with different game modes. The player has control 
over the vehicle's movement, firing, and can communicate with other 
players through typed or voice chat, and several preset actions that 
give tactical instructions visible to only their team.<br />
<br />
<b>Game modes</b><br />
The players in World of Tanks can choose six primary types of battles: 
random battles, team-training battles, tank-company battles, team 
battles, historical battles and clan battles.<br />
<b><br />
Random battles</b><br />
There are 3 types of random battle; Standard, Assault and Encounter. 
Players have the option to be excluded from Assault, and Encounter 
battles. All random battles consist of two teams of 15 randomly selected
 players on a randomly selected map.<br />
<br />
<b>Standard</b><br />
The goal is to capture the enemy flag/base or eliminate all enemy tanks within 15 minutes. If time expires it is a draw.<br />
Assault<br />
The attacking team has to capture the defending team's base or destroy all enemy tanks. If time expires the defending team wins.<br />
Encounter<br />
Two teams fight to capture a single neutral base or eliminate all enemy tanks within 15 minutes. If time expires it is a draw.<br />
Team Battle is the new game mode in the 8.9 update. It features game 
match-making based on skill, kills and time spent on servers.<br />
Historical Battle is a new mode in WoT, but has been disabled for reworking as of the release of Update 0.9.2 on 30 July, 2014.<br />
Team Training<br />
In this mode, a player can make a room and select the map to play. It 
can be decided to be open to the public, or by invitation. This mode is 
used for experiments with various tank mechanics, learning new maps, 
strategic planning and movement, and as a place to train others. There 
are no experience points or credits gained in this mode and any repairs 
needed for vehicle are free except for expended shells and equipment 
(consumables used).<br />
<br />
<b>Tank Company</b><br />
A player can create a team in four divisions. Each division has 
different tier points requirement. Companies are available in 4 
divisions: Junior, Medium, Champion and Absolute.<br />
<br />
<b>Team Battle</b><br />
A new mode introduced in patch 0.8.9, players can make their own teams 
or join teams made by others, either manually or via a new, special 
matchmaking system. This mode uses the same rules as the popular 7/42 
tournaments: 7 tanks maximum and 42 tier points maximum. Tier limit for 
all tanks is tier 8. This mode has limited map selection: Abbey, Ensk, 
Himmelsdorf, Steppes and a few others. In patch 0.9.10, a lot more maps 
will be playable. A popular setup to go with is five tier 8 tanks and 
two tier 1's for scouting.<br />
<br />
<b>Clan Battles</b><br />
World of Tanks offers a unique battle mode called Clan Wars in which, 
for a moderate amount of gold, players can create their own Clan and 
fight with other friends. On the Global Map, Clan Commanders can land on
 a province and try to capture it (by fighting against other clans who 
have applied for landing) and then receive a certain amount of gold 
every day.<br />
<br />
<b>Tournaments</b><br />
<br />
Players can compete in organized bracket-style tournaments of teams 
consisting of a specified number of players using tanks of a specified 
type. Winners of the bracket receive gold, and in certain tournaments 
special prizes such as computer parts.<br />
<br />
<b>Historical Battles</b><br />
A new mode added in patch 9.0, this game mode is centered around battles
 that occurred during World War II. They take place on a map most 
similar to the battle's environment, and only includes armored vehicles 
used in said battles. The battles are fought with each country having 
their own team. The amount of tanks are closely modeled to what the real
 numbers were in real life. For example, having five German Tigers 
fighting ten Russian T-34's. The modules and the amount of each type of 
ammunition are closely modeled to how they existed in real life. The 
player does not have to own the modules of the tank or the ammunition 
before going into battle, the player pays the cost for ammunition up 
front, and is refunded the worth of the ammunition not used in the 
battle. The only requirement is that the player has one of the tanks 
listed for the current battle selected. Currently, the only battles 
available to be reenacted are the Battle of Kursk, Operation Spring 
Awakening, and the Battle of the Bulge. The only maps in circulation for
 these battles are Prokhorovka and Erlenburg. Historical battle mode has
 been disabled for reworking as of the release of Update 0.9.2 on 30 
July, 2014.<br />

<b>2.</b> Right-click on <b>My Computer</b> icon on Desktop and select <b>Properties</b> (or press <b><WIN></b> key + <b><Pause/Break></b> key),  click on <b>Advanced system settings</b> link in left side pane (You can also open it by typing <b>sysdm.cpl</b> in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter). Now click on <b>Settings</b> button in <b>Performance</b> section:<br />

Now disable all unnecessary options in <b>Visual Effects</b> tab, you can remain following options enabled according to your requirements:<br />

<li><b>Enable transparent glass</b> (If you want to use transparency in Windows)</li>
<li><b>Show preview and filters in folder</b> (If you use Details Pane in Explorer)</li>
<li><b>Show thumbnails instead of icons</b> (If you want to show thumbnails in Explorer)</li>
<li><b>Show window contents while dragging</b> (If you want windows to show content while moving them)</li>
<li><b>Smooth edges of screen fonts</b> (If you want to show smooth fonts)</li>
<li><b>Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop</b> (If you want to show shadows under desktop icon labels)</li>
<li><b>Use visual styles on windows and buttons</b> (If you want to use Windows Aero or Basic theme.)</li>

3.</b> Open <b>Folder Options</b> and click on <b>View</b> tab:<br />

Now disable following options:<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Display file size information in folder tips.</b></li>
<li><b>Display simple folder view in Navigation pane.</b></li>
<li><b>Hide extensions for known file types.</b></li>
<li><b>Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.</b></li>
<li><b>Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.</b></li>
</ul>
Other options don't affect the system performance. You can enable/disable them according to your requirements.<br />
<br />
<b>4.</b> Right-click on <b>My Computer</b> icon on Desktop and select <b>Manage</b> (You can also open it by typing <b>services.msc</b> in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter).<br />
Now goto <b>Services & Applications -> Services</b>. Here you can set a few unnecessary services to <b>Manual</b>, which will not start with windows and will decrease the boot time and will increase system performance.<br />
<b><br />
5.</b> Type <b>msconfig</b> in RUN or Startmenu search box and press Enter. Now goto <b>Startup</b>
 tab and deselect the unnecessary entries, which you don't want to start
 automatically with Windows, e.g. you can disable VGA driver utility, 
Sound Card utility, etc to speed up the startup time and to increase 
system performance.<br />
You can also disable these items using <b>Windows Defender</b>. Open Windows Defender and click on <b>Tools</b> and then click on "<b>Software Explorer</b>".<br />
<b><br />
6.</b> Open <b>Sound</b> in Control Panel (or type <b>mmsys.cpl</b> in RUN or Startmenu search box and press Enter), goto <b>Sounds</b> tab and select <b>No Sounds</b> in <b>Sound Scheme</b> section. Or you can remain some of your favorite sounds but set <b>Exit Windows, Windows Logoff, Windows Logon and Start Navigation</b> to <b>(None)</b>.<br />
<b><br />
7.</b> After following all above mentioned points, you'll see a big 
improvement in your Windows Vista performance. If you want to tweak 
more, then you can use 3rd party tools which are listed here:<br />

<b>8.</b> At last I'll advise to defrag the HDD regularly, install only
 necessary software, use the latest drivers and keep your Windows 
updated.
